Title: Essential Check Point FireWall-1 NG: An Installation, Configuration, and Troubleshooting Guide
Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional

The Perfect Way to Prepare for FW 1.

This is a how-to book clearly intended primarily for those who have already decided to install firewall 1 software on their systems. There are several things I like about this book, not the least of which is the author's honest, straightforward approach to his subject matter.
I also really like the extensive use of FAQ's to resolve many of the challenges likely to be encountered in implementing your firewall protection. But what makes that especially helpful is the comprehensive table of contents listing just the FAQ's.
My favorite chapter is the one devoted to planning your firewall system. It's thorough, including all of the items that should be considered in the planning process. For my money, this chapter alone is probably worth the cost of the book.
My advice is to read this book before you start spending money on the software. Follow all of the advice about planning. Then use the book to help you make the most of what you buy.

Title: Verilog HDL Synthesis, A Practical Primer

Excellent and Practical guide for today's RTL design

This book gives many examples to help immediate application for practical design. Synthesis is much more important than simulation, because that the major reason of rapid increase of HDL designers is the recent availability of synthesis tool. However, many published books spend little effort for synthesis. This book is the first book that intensively focuses the synthesis in the user's view; how to desribe design to generate intended circuit. No complicated talk on CAD technology. The discussion on blocking vs non-blocking assignments is also valuable for an advancved understanding on the semantic consistency between synthesis and simulation. This book is a really excellent and practical guide for today's RTL design.

Enterprise Java Architects: Buy This Book

My love affair with Java has lasted six years now. With enterprise architecture being the way to go, I've been reading about J2EE development using EJB for several months, trying to get my head around why simple things are made so hard using EJB. I was dreading training my developers in Java, and then having to show them EJB and figure out ways to help them be productive.

This book (and the Spring framework) are the light at the end of the tunnel. The concepts are grounded in commonly accepted best practices for application development, the arguments for the implementations chosen are sound, and the implementations themselves are simple and fast. Not to mention, the entire framework has been designed so that you can drop it at any moment and move on to the next big thing when it arrives. Try getting that out of an EJB implementation.

Spring has given me hope for enterprise Java development. If you are at all interested in simplifying your life as a Java developer and have become disillusioned or disappointed with EJB, then this book is a must have.
