Title: New Perspectives on Creating Web Pages with HTML Third Edition - Comprehensive

Excellent Self-Study

This is an excellent book for self-study. No prior programming skills are needed. Each chapter is full of colorful pictures and graphics. You just copy the codes in the chapter line by line and you see the page you've created. Instant gratification. At the end of the chapter there are 3 or 4 projects. The book gives you a few hints, but you need to code them yourself. The projects and chapter modules are all interesting.
Unlike other html books that try to be all inclusive (which explains the 1000+ pages), this book focuses only on HTML. If you want a clear solid foundation in HTML that is also fun, this is the book.
I wish the publisher would have a book for CSS.

Exclusively KORN shell

If you are interested in Bourne or Bash shell programming, be aware that this book focuses exclusively on the Korn shell (ksh or "ksh93"). The Korn shell is a superset of the Bourne shell, but if you want to write scripts for sh (Bourne) or bash, another book might be more appropriate.

From word to paragraph to page -- beautifully

When type is set badly enough, it can give you a headache -- and type is often set badly enough to be an ongoing annoyance. When it's set well, it becomes transparent, allowing the content to come through without distractions. And when it is set very well indeed, it enhances the content as good music enhances a movie. This book illuminates the interlocking problems involved in maximizing the ease and enjoyment of the reader. It's directed to writers, editors, proofreaders, designers, typesetters, and buyers/managers of their work -- but general readers who appreciate good design will also enjoy it.

To the point, and beyond

This is by far the best MySQL resource (not just book) I have ever seen. Not only does it cover (at length) the MySQL SQL Server and accompanying clients, but also covers the PHP, PERL DBI, and C APIs. If you have EVER seen any type of database or are remotely familiar with database theory, you'll be developing your own MySQL *application* after the 385th page (which is the end of the API overviews... if you already know your API of choice, you'll be up-and-running after the second chapter).
