Amazing

This is THE book to get if you want to learn good, fundamental, ASP. Although this book isnt as thorough as the Wrox book, its a much faster read, focusing on ASP fundamentals. The author gets repetitive at times, but i believe this is by design so as to drive home all the major concepts. Repetition is good, especially for the novice. I've already started developing a couple database-driven web applications at work thanks to this book. I recommend this book for beginners and then maybe moving on to the Wrox books for more detailed reading.

Title: Transact-SQL Desk Reference: For Microsoft SQL Server

Great reference

The back of this book claims that "This is the SQL reference you'll reach for first!" and I can personally support their claim. It is easily the best organized SQL reference that I have encountered. It contains alphabetical listings of all SQL data types and their related functions, in-depth instruction on data definition (create, alter, drop, etc.) and comprehensive descriptions and examples of all data manipulation methods (insert, update, delete, etc.).

The only possible drawback of this book is that it is not, nor is it intended to be, an instruction manual for SQL. The book cuts right to the point, and only tells you exactly what you need to know. For beginners, this book would not be a good starting point, but for people with at least some exposure to SQL, this book will probably never leave your desk.

Good intro

This review is based on the first edition. Good intro to .NET. I read through the last sentence but did skip some unfamiliar explanations on COM and previous programming methodologies. Great explanation of Web Service, which another book on C# totally failed to. The humor gets wordy a lot, so beware - however, some analogies are excellent.

I love my new dictionary, not only does it come with a cd-rom, but its definitions are accurate for the world we live in.
