Not for Beginners

Game programming is phenominally difficult. Arkanoid (an ancient arcade game) contains more than eight pages of code, full of very difficult math subjects. The book is an excellent resource for anyone with very very solid math and programming experience; but you MUST have this experience or you may as well buy the book in Spanish because it will make that much sense to you. If you can write BASIC, it won't help you here. You need advanced C++ to get through this book!

Excellent starter book for Win32 programming

I had never programmed using the Win API (apart from the odd Visual Basic API call) before. I do, however, know C & C++ pretty well inside out.

The book is well written and very readable. There are plenty of examples in the book, and they are supported by a downloadable ZIP file that contains the actual code that you can simply compile & run. The only criticism I have about the examples is that they could be a little better explained. Some things are left to the reader to sort out. However, if you already know C or C++ this should not be too difficult

This is not a book for C & C++ beginners. It is bang up to date & covers all versions of the API from the earliest versions of Windows to the latest versions, even referring to the emerging Win64 technology.

I would recommend this book to anyone who needs to go beyond standard C / C++ or even go beyond MFC. It would also be useful to anyone who needs to know what goes on 'behind the scenes' in Windows or MFC.

Can be better

This book is a good entrance to the GSM world and can still serve as a quick handbook for GSM.But the main problem is with the additional unnecessary text that some times can distract the reader away from the technical point being explained.

PMP Exam Prep - a MUST USE resource for PMP Exam

This text is unequivocally a must read if you are planning to take the PMP exam. Of particularly value is the strategy described for studying for, understanding the exam and getting in "exam mode".
With little time to continually study, I used this text to cut to the chase and focus on harnessing experience, knowledge and the perspective of PMI. The interpretations of formulae and real world applications are invaluable!
After taking the exam, I looked at the sources I used and can say that this book came the absolute closest to PMI's perspective on the exam.
