The swiss army knife of UNIX books...

From the MOTD to kernel configuration, it's covered. No this book will not replace a bookshelf full of other references (and on my shelf they're mainly other O'Reillys), but if you have to carry only one book with you and operate in a heterogenous *nix environment, then this should be it. I've also owned copies of the first and second edition, and in my opinion the third edition warranted purchase.

The BEST beginners book for ASP.NET

At first I was pretty skeptical of the dummies series. I have a B.S. in computer science and I am fairly adept at programming with Java and C++. I was afraid that this book wouldn't be able to go into the level of detail that I needed to complete the project I was working on. I originally started with Microsoft Press's ASP.NET and ADO.NET - usually a good series. But this book was much better. It is very straightforward and the sample code that comes with the CD is invaluable. At approximately $25 - it's worth every penny - especially considering most books on the topic are well over $50. I would recommend this book to anyone who knows a little bit about Relational Databases and Object Oriented Programming. It's particularly valuable for someone who already knows Visual Basic and just needs a little help getting up and running with ASP/ADO.NET. The only problem I encountered with the book is that it fails to mention when using MS Access and ADO - you have to be careful not to use reserved words. One of the sample programs provided with the book - Classy Classifieds - won't run properly unless you change the authors database field and every reference to in the code from Password to Pssword or something else. But that is really not a big deal and I still give this book 5 stars.

Excellent book for internet routing

This book is excellent. You should have a pretty good working knowledge of general networking. I would also really only recommend this book if you have a need to work with BGP and route the internet. But if that is your intention, then this book is perfect.

Useless as a reference work.

One probably doesn't need to say much about this book. Together with Lamport's book, it is the book that definitely mustn't be absent from your bookshelf! Full of useful information for the intermediate and advanced LaTeX user; it will definitely help you improve your documents!
