NOT for Beginners

I am new to Windows 2000 Server having bought it to start a web server for my small laboratory services business. The book was rated highly so I gave it a try. When the title says MASTERING it really means you better have prior MS Server experience as a prerequisite to using this book.
Much of the writing in this book assumes a working knowledge of the basics including installation, network setup, server configuration and more. For example, only brief descriptions were given of some entries required during installation. Many install topics where barely mentioned at all even though the concept and proper configuration of these are critical to proper install and server configuration. Some topics are discussed in great detail but seeking this information out among the entire text was difficult at best. The organization and flow of the text in this book could not be easily applied to a new install / setup situation.
In short this is not a HOW TO type of book and you should look elsewhere if you are a beginner.

Such a bad book

Lots of errors in examples, figures, and everywhere. Liberty has tried to follow Microsoft model. 'Shove the product out the door fast'.
Liberty is not such a good author, I would say. Confuses in many places.
Very, very poor and artificial examples. You can't use even a single example from this book in your real life. Please do not buy this book, if you have not already done so.

Title: Mastering BEA WebLogic Server: Best Practices for Building and Deploying J2EE Applications
Publisher: Wiley
Authors: Gregory Nyberg, Robert Patrick, Paul Bauerschmidt, Jeff McDaniel, Raja Mukherjee, Gregory Nyberg, Robert Patrick
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Excellent book - perfect for the advanced user

This is an excellent book for the advanced user. The author assumes a knowledge of J2EE/Weblogic and builds on that. The focus of the book is Best Practises in building weblogic applications and it does just that. The book also lists new features in Weblogic 8. I also liked the example application.
If you are a novice user, then this book is not recommended.
If you have worked in J2EE (and specifically weblogic), then this is a must-have on your book-shelf.
