A Sampler at Best

The author seems confused as to whether he's writing a guide or a reference, and at best he winds up with what I would call a sampler.
The other unfortunate thing is that the author beats the "Hello World" example to death. (He is still using "Hello World" on page 436 of 476 pages.) This leads to Bill's rule of computer publishing: Never ever under any circumstances let an author use "Hello World" past the second chapter of a book.
Some portions of the book assume you've never seen computer code before while others assume you already know ASP. There are chapters on program language fundamentals, application configuration, security, ADO, web services, and every now and then a chapter on ASP.Net.
Insofar as this book is a sampler you will not come away with an indepth understanding of ASP.Net. That is, unless you feel that you can fully understand the subtilties of a programming language by reviewing "Hello World" examples.

Better than Certified Technical Support !

I bought a HP Pavillion 8785C and within the year had so many problems that the PC was racking up more mileage than me!
It was 'fixed??' twice by HP. Motherboard changed, Modem changed, RAM changed.. You name it, they changed it and still couldn't solve the problem!
I was ready to dump the PC after spending [money] in phone calls to HP Help! They even re-routed my call to India! And kept advising me to re-format my hard drive.
Then I bought this book and the solution was on page 698! Symptom 19-3.Within an hour after checking the heat sink and changing the fan, I was back in business.
I could have saved so much money if I had bought this book earlier. Fedup with Tech Support? Get this book!
Maybe HP should invest in a couple of hundred copies for their staff.

A somewhat useful treatment of HTML BUT

nothing special. Consider this book because it is bargain priced, but then find a serious book that will teach you what you really need to know
