Title: Improving Data Warehouse and Business Information Quality: Methods for Reducing Costs and Increasing Profits
Publisher: Wiley
Authors: Larry P. English
Rating: 5/5

A 'must-have' book for every IRM professional

The chapters on estimating your organization's cost of having non-quality data make this book a requirement for every Information Resource Management professional's book shelf.
Larry English is one of the few authors in the industry to show you how to work the numbers when it comes to data quality. While others drop hints at why quality is good, Mr. English tells us how to collect the data and how to calculate the true costs of sub-standard data management practices.
As our profession matures we will be called upon to make more explicit business cases for what we recommend to senior management -- Larry has some great methods for us to use. This will save us months of having to figure it out for ourselves.

Authors: Steve Oualline
Rating: 3/5

A disappointment

I must admit that this book was a disappointment, below the standard of other ORA books.
I suppose it is supposed to be targeted towards those who are just learning to program; however, the value of C as a first language is, in my opinion, questionable. I found that many topics which interested me (and would have been relevant) were only touched lightly if at all, and its poor glossary and index rendered it a poor reference work.
However, the sections on coding style are very good.

Very beginner book on JavaScript

I wasn't very impressed with this book. After reading HTML4 for WWW, I thought this would be good too. It was hardly any reference material at all. I would not recommend this for a professional developer. I agree with another reviewer that said He was thinking of throwing it away. Disappointing, don't waste your money on it.

TopGun stuff-Hollywood should make a movie of this book

I'm a BCMSN instructor and I found this book an invaluable help to explain my students complex arguments like STP and VLAN Load balancing (you'll finally understand the meaning and implications of portvlanpri, portvlancost , uplinkfast etc.), and is also very up to date with MLS and Cat6000 native IOS mode.
It lacks only some newer protocols like VRRP or GVRP which are indeed very recent (how long for a Volume 2?).
If you are designing / implementing / troubleshooting large campus with STP, Trunking, MS, ATM this book is definitely a must !
