Title: A Programmer's Guide to Java (tm) Certification
Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional
Authors: Khalid A. Mughal, Rolf W. Rasmussen
Rating: 3/5
Customer opinion - 3 stars out of 5
Extensive coverage. Maybe too much

If your primary concern is to become a Java Certified Programmer, then there are other books that will better prepare you than this one. The book contains double or more information of its contemporary's and while it's great to find out every little detail you might be inundated with information you would never need to know for the exam. I recommend The Exam Cram over this one in preparing for the certification exam.

Title: After Effects in Production: A Companion for Creating Motion Graphics
Publisher: CMP Books
Authors: Trish Meyer, Chris Meyer
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5

Many users among the cow forums ask which books are the best to get if one wants to learn after effects. The answer nearly always contains at least one (if not both) of the meyers books in the list (Classroom In a Book, Creating Motion Graphics, AE Production usually in that order).
This book contains nothing but projects. What's nice about the book is not that the projects are complex (some of them are very simple), it's the steps it takes in building. The author(s) go out of their way to show you different techniques for accomplishing the same thing, pointing out flaws, sometimes bugs in the software, workarounds, techniques and whatever else along the way.
They are also very good about keeping the AE 4.1 users in mind, always offering the alternate commands in parenthesis.
It is for intermediate to advanced users who want to take their AE skills to the next level.

Title: Absolute Beginner's Guide to C (2nd Edition)
Publisher: Sams
Authors: Greg Perry
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Excellent for beginners with no previous experience

Perry knows how to clearly explain the C language and keep the readers interest. The chapters are concise and not overloaded. The language is very clear. The only problem is that he could have given a few mpre examples. Still deserves 5 stars for clarity.
