Title: CCNA for Dummies, Second Edition
Publisher: For Dummies
Authors: Ron Gilster
Rating: 3/5

It's alright - but not on it's own

When preparing for the CCNA I purchased this text and found it to be a great introduction. Indeed, most all the material you'll find on the exam is covered. However, the exam requires some analysis, not just plug-and-chug answers. For a better understanding, I recommend Cisco's CCNA boxed set. I was displeased with this text because you'd occasionally find contradictions between the chapter and the Q&A at the end of the chapter. Bottom line - if you know Cisco routers, this will get you through the test. If you're new to Cisco, get a copy of the Cisco boxed set as well.

It gets you right where you want to be

When you know nothing about shake, you will get to know something about everything shake has to offer. The author doesn't dwell on his favorite topics, but gives a broad insight on the tricks of the trade. What variables are there and thru which parameters they can be ajusted to create the effect you are looking for. Whether it is compositing, keying, painting, animating or everything together. The author doesn't show off his knowledge and keeps you alert, at times, with his sense of humorPlace yourself behind your mac, install the shake demo that comes with the book and tell your family and friends that you will be away for an exiting trip, for some time. With the book as a guide and your creativity, curiosity and courage to step off the path, and experiment, you will figure Shake out to great extent.

Title: Windows Forms Programming in C#
Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional
Authors: Chris Sells

Good Windows Forms book

Windows Forms programming in C#, (the title is a little deceptive as it covers more than mere Forms) provides the necessary details to get you going on your projects. I basically bought the book because it covered the GDI+ in detail but I have since found it valuable for authoring controls as well. The book comes with example source code (downloadable from Chris' website) and Chris himself even helped me get over a couple of spots I was having trouble with. Sometimes a book is only as good as its support and Chris does not hesitate in that category. I'm glad I bought the book and I use it as an essential reference.
