No... and that is my final answer

I have purchased many books for dummies and yet I guess when it comes to this one, I need one for idiots. Unfortunately, I bought the book sight unseen since the local bookstore said they weren't going to carry it. I can see why. The author DOES assume that you will be quick to pick up on his brief explanations. Many descriptions and examples are sketchy and confusing. I bought Oleg Yaroshenko's book The Beginner's Guide to C++ and OH what a difference! I recommend at least comparing the two before purchasing.

Good time waste

I purchased this book last month. In one month, I am able to read only two chapters of this book. This book is not organized properly. It has more than 500 pages of boring essays. This certification is for java developers not law makers. Chapters has been made big by repeating the same lines but in different ways. After reading the whole chapter, I always felt like I have read two - three lines of info. It should be technically organized for example more diagrams, making list of technical points, using bullets.

Good for beginners

This is an excellent book if you are a completely ignorant as far as .NET is concerned but have a good understanding of general programming concepts. Would be a good read for technically literate management. However if you intend to become fully proficient you will probably need another book in addition to this one.

Easy to read and VERY practical

Stephen Northcutt and his co-authors have put together an easy to read and very comprehensive work. Extensive use is made of humour, graphics and annecdotes to drive home key concepts.
The material begins with simple concepts and delves gradually deeper into the more complex concepts. This allows the reader to build up and get all of the coverage of this critical subject that will allow them to understand how important intrusion detection is within network security.
