About as good as it gets

Simply the definitive reference for serious HTML, DHTML CSS, Javascript etc. Very strong on cross-browser isssues. Clear, concise, absolutely definitive.
This book is referred to constantly in my web-development company. We've used it to create some impressive and original web-applications.
Recommended unreservedly for serious web-programmers. If all you know is Front Page, you'll be in trouble though.

My first intro to computer security; dated, but valuable

I am responsible for a 50+ person intrusion detection mission, and this was the first book I ever read on computer security. I started reading it in early 1998 while assigned to a HQ planning unit, after a UNIX instructor in England recommended it as "the Bible" of security. Back then the book was two years old. Now, four years on, some may argue the material is getting dated. Anyone interested in building a training program for a mostly UNIX shop would find the underlying structure and most material of the book extremely useful. While works dealing with standards tend to weather well, like Richard Stevens' "TCP/IP Illustrated" series, this book may be showing its age. Nevertheless, until you hear that edition three is in the wings, I still recommend this volume. Any news on the next edition, Simson and Spaf?

Completed Reference

I am fairly new to the PIC world. While trying to pic (pun intended)out a suitable MCU book I came across this particular book. This is a great reference book for both advanced and begginers. I also purchased PROGRAMMING AND CUSTOMIZING PICmicro MICROCONTROLLERS by Myke predko. The combination of these book had me writting softwre and building complex circuitry in no time. I was able to build a small robot which uses the following:Pulse width modulation, Seven Segment Display control, Playback/Recording, push buttons, servo contol, DC motor control. These are both great books I reccomend them highly.

Excellent learning and reference tool

This is a book that should be on every MySQL users desk because it provides great references of every aspect of the database for the advanced users and yet still guides the beginner through the initial stages of making your first MySQL database. I have been using this book for several months now and have found it to be a great time saver when I just need to reference something that has slipped my mind. It also covers the Perl, C, and PHP API's which is a big help. I have mainly used the section on the PHP which tends to be a little light, but then again if you are looking to use PHP you should get a PHP book.
