Title: Sams Teach Yourself SQL in 10 Minutes, Third Edition
Publisher: Sams

DeFacto standard for beginning SQL

This is the standard for beginner SQL Server books. It cuts through the verbose theory in other books and gets straight to the syntax and applicability. Many other computer beginner books could learn a lesson from SQL in 10 minutes. The lesson is you don't have to try to cover every nook and cranny and confuse the hell out of people. Beginners are seperate from experts who are seperate from guru's. Speak to them in the language that they understand best. In other words, know your audience!! Ben Forta certainly did in this book. Bravo, Ben!

wrong way to start

I'm assuming this book is intended for beginners, since those who are advanced will only be wasting their time reading this childish text.
If you're a beginner, starting to learn programming by reading this book is like discussing the next major physics theory without know any physics. You'll learn to philosophize and throw around grand but meaningless ideas. Starting with C and machine organization books (i.e. assembler) is a better way. You'll learn the internals first, find out what's behind programming. You'll know how procedures are actually called, and what some of the issues are. Than you can read books like these. In fact, towards the end of chapter 4, the authors themselves admit that their simplistic view of computers and languages is severely deficient if they want to descirbe things properly, so in ch.5 they introduce register machines (i.e..they teach you abou how CPUs work). Beginners learning from this text is akin to space scientits planning a complex trajectory, and than getting down to learn basic Newtonian mechanics. No wonder so many beginners I've talked with complained. They couldn't understand what all of this encapsulation meant, since they had no idea of the basic underlying process--simple pushes onto a stack and jmp instructions.
Aside from the book's wrong approach, it's also terribly written. I tired to like it, but books can only be so boring before you start to feel aversion towards it.

Awsome Book!!!

This book is the best resource on the subject of combining Photoshop and Dreamweaver to create websites like the pros.

This is Colin's second book on the subject. Both books are great, but this new one includes high quality color illustrations that suppliment the easy to follow step-by-step instructions.

Downloadable work files and examples from this book are available on Colin's website. His training DVD that can be purchased separately is a great add-on to this book because you can see many of the key topics with different content.

This book answers the questions that we all have on the subject. Finally, the secrets to top website design are out!!!

A low quality product

My main problem with this book is that 90% of it is in black and white. Now you may think that that is a bit petty but when dealing with this kind of subject matter I think that its important not to cut corners.
