Great Intermediate Java Book

Already know how to program? Understand a little about Object-Oriented programming concepts? Don't want to waste your time reading three or four Java books to find a good one? Try 'Thinking in Java'. I just graduated from college and have very little programming experience. I found the book 's concepts easy to understand (except inner classes). Most importantly it provides a closer look at the Java programming language than other texts and you will get a better understanding of how Java works. Each chapter is filled with lots of useful information (not wordy, like other books). Some of the later chapters provide a great primer to understanding advanced topics. This is NOT a 'how to program' book. It is book for those who want to understand 'how Java works' behind your program.

Beginners Should Use K&R With Steve Summit's Notes

Many reviewers have noted that K&R2 isn't well-suited to the needs of a real beginner. I was in the same position and found Steve Summit's online "class notes" a useful introduction, along with his supplemental notes to K&R2.

Worst Book Ever

Thank God I DID NOT BUY this book. I took 30 minutes to read this book at a bookstore and if you are interested in learning how to hack, then this book is not for you. This book DOES NOT SHOW YOU HOW TO HACK, it's just another ordinary book which shows you how to PREVENT a hacker from attacking your computer/network. Very disappointing. Even the information in this book that shows you how to prevent a hacker attack can be found online easily. This book is definatly not worth it.
