Not for the faint of heart

Let there be no doubt that Mr. Eberly is an expert on the subjects presented in this book. Unfortunately - and it pains me to make this statement - he is a terrible instructor. After spending countless hours studying the text and the accompanying source code, I have regrettably come to the conclusion that he is more interested in showcasing his knowledge than actually explaining the material.

It is imperative for a programmer interested in this book to realize that it demands an extreme familiarity with linear algebra. Even the most basic fundamentals of 3D programming are explained in strict mathematical notation. When looking at an equation, if you are unable to immediately visualize the C/C++ representation you are in for a long, difficult read and an even longer integration process.

There is, however, a great deal of value in the abstract theory section of the book. I do not feel, however, that those sections alone are worth the cover price.

Because of the wealth of information contained in both the text and source code, I can't in good conscience give this book a bad review. Unfortunately, this is no casual read. Personally, I believe that the level of education one needs to fully utilize the information presented contradicts the need for this book entirely.

Title: Python Cookbook, 2nd Edition

innovative compilation

Maybe the most distinctive aspect of this book is how it was compiled. From over 300 authors in the Python developers community, who freely contributed their suggestions. So much so that the editors had a difficult time culling down into what they consider to be a minimal [!] set of 338 recipes. A big expansion and update over the first edition, which dealt with earlier versions of Python.

O'Reilly has been experimenting with innovations in technical publishing, and this book is an impressive example. It is a natural manifestation of the open source movement and the power of the Internet to bring such a community together. So while superficially from the book's cover, it looks like many other O'Reilly books, it may be a harbinger of future efforts. And not just in Python.

Rated this book, my ratings were deleted, here it is again!

Good book but not for beginners. The author fails to explain many concepts to a level of detail that makes it easy to understand. This book can easily be understood by computer security expert! I spent hours asking these types of questions "What does he mean?", "Why is he assuming I know this and that?", "Where is the example". Hard to understand concepts can easily be undertandable by giving examples. This book doesn't give you examples much. Encryption algorithms without examples? oof!

An excellent guide for Photoshop CS

This is the best book for learning Photoshop CS I have seen. The book and accompaning CD show you how to use the powerful tools in photoshop in a clear and easy to understand way. It doesn't matter if your just wanting to touch up a picture or layer several pictures together, the techniques given in the book are easy to understand and fun to do.
