Access 2000 For Windows For Dummies

If the whole concept of computers is to streamline information, why does the author embed his information (at least I hope there is information here) in so much jibberish? I wholeheartedly agree that it is way too cute and find it seriously annoying. If I want humor, I'll buy humor. I need to develop a program for my department! Man am I glad I borrowed this copy. I only gave it one star because I had to do so.

Outstanding, PRACTICAL BGP Book!

I would just like to add my comments to the list of reviews: if you work with BGP this book is essential! What makes this book unique is that it is intended for the real-world, production environment engineer, with outstanding results. Personally, I have used this book on two major projects with excellent results; I am sure I would not have been able to find this type of information, knowledge in any single place - if at all - since as another reviewer noted, it distills years of practical experience into a well organized, accessible format. Again, my thanks to Mssrs. Zhang and Bartell for a truly outstanding, practical book that has saved me hours of work, research. Highly recommended!!

Don't bother with the cd - get the book

I picked up this book at the recommendation of another book (Guru's Guide to Sql Server Stored Procedures) and was surprised at how well what it teaches applies to the languages I use most of the time, VB.NET and Transact-Sql. The other book had a chapter on design patterns in Transact-Sql and showed how some of the ones in this book as well as a few new ones were common in Transact-Sql stored procedures.
Thanks to that book and this one, I now look at code differently and know a pattern when I see it. Even for non-OOP languages, this book is a godsend for those who care about design.
The book is also extremely well written and as clear as it possibly can be. I read through it the first time over a weekend and came away charged up and ready to pattern the world!
I can't apply everything it teaches to my daily work, but enough of it applies that I highly recommend this book regardless of the language your using.
