Urghh..

I have a Computer Science degree, I am familiar with C++ and Unix. I figured with the awful economy and me having a hard time finding a job, it might be about time for me to learn Perl (among other things). So I saw the glowing reviews of this book and purchased it.
I honestly gleaned more about Perl from a dinky little 5 minute online tutorial than I can squeeze out of this. I just CANNOT bite into this book; there's too much garbage for people who don't know the difference betwen Unix and French. There is no decent pace, no steady flow of teaching, no way to simply and utterly learn how to program in Perl. The structure is so frustrating, I've had the urge to rip my hair out several times.
Bottom line: If you want to learn ABOUT Perl, this is the book for you. If you want to LEARN Perl, don't bother. Look for a tutorial book instead.

Complete Digital Photography (2nd Edition)

Excellent book!!! Ben Long did a wonderful job on this book. I'm currently in the process of buying a pro-consumer digital camera (something at least 6 mega-pixel using CMOS or CCD technology) and this book helps me understand the wonder of digital cameras and how I could maximize any limitation of the equipment. There are many other similar books out there and I own several of them (4 others), but this is by far my favorite.

The Art of Csound Programming

This book teaches how to create vital sounds by the well-known techniques of DSP. With the programming etiquette of others as a reference, one can learn the art of csound whose potentiality is to be able to make fine signal processings and complicated routings, in other words, the musical manifolds. However, the book might not be for beginners. The following books are also recommended;

1) Charles Dodge & Thomas Jerse: Computer Music. This book is suitable for beginners or composers, because there is a lot of practical tips. The topics are limited, but their explanations are very instructive.
2) Curtis Roads: Computer Music Tutorial. This book is suitable for students or researchers, because there is a lot of historical and theoretical accounts of computer music. In addition, the author provides a rich bibliography. The topics are more various, but their explanations are less practical.
