Title: The Adobe Photoshop CS Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter)
Publisher: New Riders Press
Authors: Scott Kelby
Rating: 3/5
Customer opinion - 3 stars out of 5
Oh Please

Mr. Kelby is undoubtedly an expert, but his books generally would be a lot more palatable to serious users if he were not so concerned with trying to be terminally cute. Learning a program like Photoshop is hard work and requires a lot of time. I don't need to be told that that Browser, for instance, takes meals to the needy before I am even told what it does or how it works. Gags like that demean the topic, demean me, and demean the "needy." The substance of Mr. Kelby's books is excellent. His pedagological approach sucks.

This book is small, but packs a big punch.

In this book, you will get concentrated doses of animation rules and laws as it applies to timing. Very simple explanations, tricks of the trade, formulas, and vital do's and dont's is what seperates this book from the rest. In animation, it's all about the timing.

A great way to learn real-world CSS!

"Eric Meyer on CSS" is one of the first and only books on CSS to take a real world and hands-on-teaching approach to CSS. You will learn CSS and how to apply it to real world situations, which helps to re-enforce what you are learning. This book will guide you through a series of well thought out projects that show you how CSS and can be used to solve problems. The book is in full-color, which makes it fun to read. Eric's writing style is very approachable and conversational, which makes you feel comfortable. His tips on browser bugs and gotchas are worth the price of the book alone!
You should have a solid understand of basic HTML and web design principles before you read this book. But once you are ready to learn CSS - make sure this is a book you don't pass up! In a market flooded with technical regurgitations and theoretical pontifications, it is so refreshing to see this kind of approach taken with a subject like CSS. There is just no better way to teach CSS!
As a fellow author and Web developer, reading this book was not only informative but very engaging and entertaining! This book should be part of every Web designer/developers curriculum. Do I have any complaints? Nope, I just wish there was MORE of it!

Title: Guide to Linux Installation and Administration, Second Edition
Publisher: Course Technology
Authors: Nick Wells
Rating: 4/5
Customer opinion - 4 stars out of 5

This book by wells takes you step by step through the installation procedure and covers basically from history of Linux to maintaining it. But because this book is only about 700 pages, its only covers the most basic. As computer person you are, you know Linux is far more complicated yet powerful for users and require a much deeper explaination and usage on the OS. For beginners, this book is for you. This book is probably good for a textbook in college for introductions and maybe just a simple guide to yourself. For administrators, you may want this to compliment your vast library of Linux books.
