Excellent

Reading through the reviews that are available as I'm composing this post, I note that all of the foreign readers give it 5 stars, and all the bad reviews come from America. Also, I note a whiney tone in most of the bad reviews. I found the book to be excellent.

Title: The Tao of Network Security Monitoring : Beyond Intrusion Detection
Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional

Finally.....an answer.

It's tough to keep up with the many facets of network security.
Many of the well respected published books in the past
have done excellent jobs in introducing many concepts but
I have always had to walk away from the book with questions
that required extensive research beyond the scope of the book.

Richard Bejtlich has written a book that fills in all the holes
left by the other authors. The numerous pages (that's right,
numerous, not 2 pages) of analysis that identify the
differences of normal to suspicious to malicious network
activity is a small portion of a huge collection that thoroughly
covers the world of network security.

I recommend the Tao of NSM to anyone who needs answers
to the following...

how do I...?, with what tool?, what approach should I take?,
what do I do next?, where else can I find info on .....?

If your responsible for the security of your network this
book needs to be on your desk....leave the rest on the
shelf for reference.

Title: The Adobe Photoshop CS Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter)
Publisher: New Riders Press

Cloying and Annoying, some good things

If you can get past Scott Kirby's adolescent patter, there are a number of useful tips on how to use CS effectively for common (and some uncommon) photo manipulation tasks.

However, that's all you get. No discussion on what you are doing. This really is for intro level photographers. Katrin Eisman's books are a much better buy. This one you look at once or twice and then stuff away. Eisman's books you keep coming back to.

Title: The GRE Test for Dummies, Fifth Edition

Outdated

This book was designed for people taking the GRE before October 2002. The GRE is now very different, and this book does not reflect the change in GRE format. The book is still geared towards students taking the paper based test. It doesn't provide any practical strategies for the computer bsaed test. Also, this book doesn't include any explanation of the new analytical writing section. I gave this book three stars because it does include a very helpful math review. However, if you are not strong in math, you will definately need a book with a more comprehensive math review. The verbal section is good, but you can also find good verbal tips in the Princeton Review and Kaplan books. Until this book is updated, it is probably better to choose an alternative book for your GRE prep.
