Title: Seize the Work Day: Using the Tablet PC to Take Total Control of Your Work and Meeting Day

This book is a MUST HAVE for any Tablet PC owner

I became interested in the Tablet PC after a recent trip to Las Vegas. The restaurant Aureole has their entire wine list on Tablet PCs. After that dinner, I decided to make the switch from my 17" Apple Powerbook G4, to a Toshiba Portege M200 (custom built with 1.7 Pentium, faster drive and built-in Bluetooth). That's right; I switched from a Mac to Tablet PC! I am very computer literate, so working with the Tablet PC came easy. I bought How to do everything with your Tablet PC and Tablet PC Quick Reference. They were fine, but not what I was looking for. Then I found your book, it was exactly what I was looking for. Not a beginner's how to, but an accurate look at how to use the Tablet PC as a true business tool. I thought I was organized before, but after reading your book, I am now more organized than I have ever been!
Thank you for writing a fantastic book. This book is a MUST HAVE, not just for a Tablet PC owner, but for any professional looking to increase productivity and improve their organizational skills.

Title: Domain-Driven Design: Tackling Complexity in the Heart of Software
Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional
Authors: Eric Evans

A Framework for Proper Object Thinking

This book may change the way you think about software design. Of all the software books I purchased over the last year, this book ranks as one of the most important (another is Lean Software Development by Mary and Tom Poppendieck). The book presents an elegant pattern language to help the modeler understand and design the domain in which he is crafting software. The pattern language addresses both the human factor of modeling (i.e., effective communication with all stakeholders) and the technique of modeling (i.e., the application of object concepts).
This well-organized book succeeds on many levels:
* It helps prepare the modeler to work with his domain by suggesting he must develop the right mindset and communicate with the people who understand the domain.
* Emphasizing the need to keep the domain model as pure as possible, it explains the absolute fundamentals of a domain model, including the all-important notions of entities, value objects, services, and modules. It presents the object-lifecycle, including the mechanisms of factory and repository (and their advantages).
* It provides techniques for object discovery and refinement and model flexibility.
* It provides ideas for organizing cooperative teams.
* It is highly compatible with agile processes, such as eXtreme Programming (XP). In fact, the author himself has practiced XP.
This book should be the second book a novice modeler should purchase. A seasoned modeler should buy this book immediately.

Title: I Can't Believe I'm Buying This Book: A Commonsense Guide to Successful Internet Dating
Publisher: Ten Speed Press
Authors: Evan Marc Katz

Everybody's doing it!

As an experienced online dater, I can definitively say that "I Can't Believe I'm Buying This Book" is a must-read for Internet dating virgins and veterans alike. With his warm, thoughtful and informative delivery, Katz manages to alter what to many may feel is a scary, intimidating endeavor into an exciting, inviting and doable process. His experience with online dating communities as both a consumer and a consultant gives him the expertise to impart insider information and personal vignettes that bring this book to life. He's funny, he's witty, and he simply just knows his stuff. I often found myself nodding in agreement or inadvertently laughing out loud at some random passage. My favorite chapter is the one where he shows how to write a magnetic profile, giving tangible examples of what works and what doesn't. I not only learned a whole lot from this book, but finished it with more optimism and confidence about Internet dating than I ever had before. Thanks for bringing good old-fashioned dating commonsense up to speed with the 21st century. Great book!

Title: Designing with Web Standards

good work and ideas

I spent a long time flipping between CSS/web standards books before deciding on Designing with Web Standards by Jeffrey Zeldman. I enjoyed the book but found it 'in-between'. It was part 'how-to' and part 'practical'. The challenge for me was the how-to section was often the simple stuff and the practical part was very specific examples he used for client work. The examples are helpful but are unique situations to his work.

Overall I enjoyed the book. There are some cool ideas, helpful insight, gee-whiz factor in what he is doing that everyone will benefit. I think it lays out the problems, challenges and frustrations [the first four chapters only deal with spelling out the problems] that people face trying to 'design with web standards'. The questions for you are (1) do you want to see this spelled out for you? And (2) do you enjoy books that show practical examples that show how one person used some cool ideas to get around the problems? These are the $23.80 questions.
