I learned a little, but the book's out of date.

This is the book for anyone using 3D Studio MAX for the first time. After completing the first 3 chapters I was able to begin reading (with understanding) the more comprehensive manuals for experienced MAX users. GREAT MANUAL, THANK YOU Michele and company.

Gotta have it.

In today's environment of spam, virus, and bad things in general, knowing how to protect yourself is a very valuable commodity. Paul has managed to condense everything you need down to a nutshell, okay, maybe more like an acorn tree. But it's all in there. Chapter 20 should be a must-read for anyone in messaging. It goes over some of the legal aspects of you and your messaging system. Most administrators don't realize the possible litigation that they can get themselves into. And sure, your company will protect you. When it comes to a 10 million dollar lawsuit or an employee, who's going to get the shaft?!Ever worry about what permissions have been set on something? Take a look at Appendix B for an in-depth guide.

An Excellent Primer

I've read and reviewed a great deal of technical literature, and found Dr. Johnston's book to be a detailed and well-written introduction to an extremely complex protocol. Without over-simplifying, Dr. Johnston, manages to convey a great deal of information in a style of writing that is lively and engaging (and that's a real breath of fresh air, compared to similar books on the topic). I plan to put this on the required reading list for my next class on the subject.

Don't be scared off by the title

I've had an opportunity to read an advance copy; I think this will be a work whose importance stretches far beyond the narrowly defined world of marketing. Hanson offers a fine primer on how the Internet offers almost everyone the opportunity to build one-to-one business relationships. Anyone whose economic interests are affected by the information economy -- retailers, publishers, creators, strategic planners, just about anyone in business today -- should learn these lessons.
