Pretty good Book but not a one-stop deal

This book really helped me nail down the basic concepts. I used it and the Test CD to build my base knowledge. I really needed the material on RIS and IIS.

I coupled this with Video training from AppDev and the test questions from BrainDumpGalaxy. WARNING just studying the questions will not cut it. Use them to test your knowledge and study the explanations of why the correct answers are correct, and why the wrong answers are wrong. Then go back and study the book on the stuff you realize you just aren't getting.

This method allowed me to score 938.

Good book for PIX

Our company uses all of the PIX models from the 501 to the 535s. We are also now using 6.2 I was looking for a book that had coverage on all the models and also was written to v6.2. I got this book, becuase it looked like it would cover all of this, and I just finished reading it last night. The stuff I learned in the book combined with my on the job experience, I now feel like I know just about verything there is. The book was well written with a good level of detail, and it also has lots of output and some pretty good diagrams that help to get the point across.

The business basics, but it takes more to succeed.

Initially I was confused over how this book would be different from "Small Business for Dummies." Now I think I know. This book focuses on the everyday chores of starting, funding and running a small business, and gives you lots of legal forms which you can use in order to save money on attorney fees. I find the forms on the CD-ROM extremely useful and helpful.
The book does NOT talk about business ideas or marketing. It approaches the small business from a legal standpoint. For example, how do you talk to venture capitalists? How do you give employees stock options (incredible info in the book!)? How do you deal with employee discontent? How to protect your business legally? How to write a contract? And so on.
If you need to know how to get a small biz idea or how to sell your products/services, this book is not for you. But, once you get your idea off the ground, you ABSOLUTELY NEED this book to survive -- unless you've got lots of cash to afford a good attorney. This book is no substtitute for a lawyer in many situations, but I have been able to use the forms in the book and on the accompanying CD-ROM to save my company thousands of dollars. I think this is a must-have reference for every small business owner.
I wish IDG would put out an updated edition soon.

Five Stars For Groth

Far too few engineers can truly articulate what they know. Groth is one of them. His book is an excellent read and a very good review. The materials are pretty comprehensive and will get you through the exam, but a supplementary text like Tod Lammle's CCNA study guide should be at hand. There are always subtle issues that an author misses or doesn't provide enough detail on.
The only downside here is that there are a couple of "important" test questions on the CD (one on subnetting and one on ISDN, for example)that were not well edited and the answers are wrong. That will get you in a bit of trouble on the exam.
All that said, I'd certainly buy a second text from Groth. My presumption (in advance) would be that it would be well written and organized like this one.
