A comprehensive book, with good examples

The authors use clear easy-to-understand algorithms to explain difficult concepts. Carefully selected examples make it very a comprehensive and insightful book. It is a good cookbook for beginning as well as advanced machine vision people. The text is supported by an abundance of figures and graphics. The full C source companion software on CD ROM enables the reader to quickly apply the theory. Altogether indispensable for the researcher and innovator, who will return to this remarkable book again and again.

Excellent Reference and Guide

This book can be used as a guide (read it cover to cover) or a reference (just jump in and read specific parts).

The author lives up to his promise in that he distills information from nine seperate books down to just one. He does this by providing just the main information you need to get your network up and running. It is very practical information. While he doesn't dwell on theory, he does cover concepts so you don't just try to memorize steps but rather you understand the why with the how.

Overall, it is an excellent source for beginners and intermediate network administrators.

It was so well written even the humor was tolerable.

Telecommunications Management by Nolan Vincent Jones

This book did a good job in expressing what is needed for a manager to be effective. However, I would also recommend reviewing the book Telecommunications Management by Nolan Vincent Jones for even more information regarding effective strategies to beat the competition.

Excellent tutorial for people w/ some programming experience

I found this tutorial well laid out and easy to understand. The lessons have a lot of hands-on examples (with no errors in the code!), and move smoothly from simple to more complex concepts. The authors also do a great job of holding the students attention by adding lots of humor to the lessons (one lesson has you feeding a hungry Jabberwock). They also use real life situations to explain complex theories (using trees to explain classes and objects, or using LEGOs to explain Object-oriented programming). A complete novice might find the lessons a little overwhelming, and an experienced C++ programs might find them too basic. But for the other 80% of the population this book is a great learning tool.
