Title: Digital Design: Principles and Practices and Xilinx 4.2i Student Package (3rd Edition)
Publisher: Prentice Hall
Authors: John F. Wakerly
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Complete, funny and useful

This is about the best book on Digital Design I've had in my hands. It was strongly recommended by our professor, and the whole class totally agreed after a few weeks.
It is complete since I had a class that was half a Digital Design course. I found every topics treated in a complete and detailed way.
It is useful, because in my opinion the included Xilinx Software alone worths the whole price. It is a powerful tool that lets you put in practice what you've learned from the book.
And it is as funny as a book on this subject can be ... one can learn it from the first pages. This helps taking the book in your hands even when studying is not exactly the funniest thing you could do.
The overall quality, hence, remains 5 stars from me even if ... printing errors have been sometime very annoying. I think the Updated Edition should be a good remedy to this drawback.

Title: OCP Oracle9i Database: New Features for Administrators Exam Guide

A good book that needs more technical content

I have passed the 9i upgrade test partly thanks to this book. This books needs to be updated with more technical content. Topics like supplemental logging and minimum no. of granules that a database can have, etc must be added. Also lot of topics needs more explanation from an OCP exam view. It would be nice if the typo errors are corrected.
I read Oracle 9i new features written by Robert Freeman which has good technical content and oracle doc's to pass the test.

Title: Learning PHP 5
Publisher: O'Reilly
Authors: David Sklar
Rating: 2/5
Customer opinion - 2 stars out of 5
Way too simplistic

I got this book because I figured it would be a good introduction to PHP, but it was not. I have experience programming applications (in java and C), but not for the web and was curious about php.
It feels that after reading the entire book, I hardly know about php 5. If all you want to know is how to make basic forms or how to interact with a database in a basic way then this book may be for you, but if you want to know the ins and outs of php this book is horrible.

I definitely think this book is pretty much useless for experienced programmers, but I would also be inclined to believe that its not good for beginners either. Oh well, I'm off to shop for a new book on php!

An Excellent MFC Reference Book for Windows

Hi,
This is an unparalleled MFC reference. You will at one point or another need to look up something from Prosise's book. There are no exceptions! Buy it, read it, and keep it as a reference. In fact, I honestly feel that all MFC programmers should have a copy of it. It is to MFC as Programming Windows by Charles Petzold is to Win32 API.
I highly recommend Programming Windows with MFC Second Edition.
