Title: The Photoshop Elements 3 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter)
Publisher: New Riders Press
Authors: Scott Kelby
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5

Most tech type manuals are boring and dry! That can't be said for this book. There is lots of humour to start each chapter and then you get to the serious learning. Full colour pictures and step by step "how to" instructions lead you through the process of working with Photoshop elements 3. I enjoyed this book so much at as soon as I finished it I ordered Scott Kelby's "Down and Dirty Tricks for elements 3. I was worried that I might get a repeat of what I just learned, but it's all new stuff so well worth the investment.

Informative but not Practical

This book is an encyclopedic volume of knowledge about Software Engineering, and proceeds from the beginning of the process to the end, with tangents being in the last few chapters. It has the feel of a textbook, with exercises and Key Points at the end of each chapter.
That said, it isn't very entertaining and if it hadn't been my course book, I would have chosen a different Software Engineering text. This book is a great supplemental reference to get more detailed information. I keep it on my shelf at work as a handy reference.

Title: Blogging: Genius Strategies for Instant Web Content
Publisher: New Riders Press
Authors: Biz Stone
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Blogging without Flogging

Biz Stone's "Blogging: Genius Strategies for Instant Web Content" is well-written, comprehensive, thorough and entertaining. Starting from ground zero, Biz explains how to create a blog, compares blogging service providers & programs and offers suggestions generating income via a blog. He also explains how to create group and corporate blogs for more efficient teamwork and dynamic communication.
More than a basic blogging manual, Biz's book goes on to explain more complicated and sophisticated aspects of blogging such as Cascading Style Sheets, Sideblogs and Email Blogs and Syndicating A Blog. This book rapidly and easily develops the absolute beginner into a fairly sophisticated blogger.
As a community college instructor in the area of computer graphic art and multimedia design, I strongly recommend this book for people who are eager to create an attractive, complete weblog even though he or she may know very little about weblogs when they pick up the book.

More than just a ?do this? book!

The thing I like most about this book is the numerous "Asides" found throughout the book. The author takes the opportunity to explain scientific, engineering, mechanical, musical, etc. concepts and principals. The book includes not only how each of the 30 projects works, but he also discusses the trials and errors he made along the way. This background on how he solved different problems allows the reader to learn how to develop better machine, creations and robots of their own imagination.
