Title: Oracle SQL High-Performance Tuning (2nd Edition)
Publisher: Prentice Hall PTR
Authors: Guy Harrison
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Hands-down, the best resource I have for tuning Oracle SQL

This is a MUST HAVE book if you're writing lots of SQL (in Oracle) and need to make sure it is as efficient as possible. Lots of real-world examples, with side-by-side comparisons of different queries that all produce the same result via different methods. It is easy to apply these techniques in my work. I have six books from Oracle Press, and while they are good as reference material, I find myself using them basically for syntax or server tuning, and never for PL/SQL tuning. Guy Harrison's book is a permanent fixture on my desk; this book covers table access methods, how to avoid unnecessary table scans, how to use TKPROF (with some excellent ratios and things to look for in the output), etc. The list goes on. I would strongly recommend this to anyone who writes SQL (in Oracle) on a daily basis.

Title: HTML for the World Wide Web with XHTML and CSS: Visual QuickStart Guide, Fifth Edition
Publisher: Peachpit Press
Authors: Elizabeth Castro
Rating: 5/5

All you need.

I absolutely hate to have to buy a how-to book and then go out and buy a reference. Probably why I love this book! It's both at once.
I'll put it this way; right now I'm working on a poetry page that uses CSS(Cascading Style Sheets) and tables as layot tools, and an e-resume that thanks to internal style sheets looks almost exactly like my hard copy.
I wonder when Castro will take a stab at a Visual Guide to XML?

Title: The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers
Publisher: New Riders Press
Authors: Scott Kelby
Rating: 2/5
Customer opinion - 2 stars out of 5
For PhotoShop & Digital Photo experts ONLY!

This is an excellent book which gives loads of practical advice for digital photographers. I previously purchased an 800 page Photoshop 7 book, which was very detailed but lacking in information for dealing with difficult photos. Scott Kelby's book is well-organized and very accessible, and his step-by-step guides are wonderful.
