Forward the Perl Foundation

To those fans of Isaac Asimov's Foundation series out there (and you know who you are), if Larry Wall is Hari Seldon, then Sriram Srinivasan has to be Yugo Amaryl, the brilliant mathematician who turned the intractable chaos of Psychohistory into the 'Prime Radiant'. Being strictly 1st Foundation myself, I used to get 99% of what I needed from the Llama, but curiosity drove me into the Panther's clutches and I was amazed at how much I managed to pick up. I did struggle from Chapter 17 onwards, where it gets a bit hairy, but this is because of my failings, not those of the author. From what I can make out, if you do manage to overcome Chapters 17 to 20, you will almost certainly be able to join the 2nd Foundation's noble rank of Perl Porters. Good Luck. (For those of you who are feverishly awaiting Mr O'Reilly's latest Perl offering, there is also an excellent section on Perl/Tk).

Exactly What it Should Be

After reading several of the reviews listed, many with low ratings, it came to my attention that the people have completely missed the point. The CISSP is supposed to be an acknowledgement of your understanding of security, not a piece of paper. You want to blow through a test? Go get Transender and get your paper MCSE. This book is meant to present the various areas of security and provide some insight arranged in the 10 domains. To cover every aspect of security would take volumes - hence the value of these editions. If you are looking for a quick fix, this book is not for you. This book continually communicates the foundation concepts of security that you will need to be a true CISSP. It concerns me that a book compiled with so much referenced security information is considered low ranking. Based on the "it doesn't help with the test" statements, I fear that the CISSP will become the flooded, worthless paper we see in other certifications. For those of us who are CISSPs and have been in the industry for sometime, this quick fix attitude will damage the certification and lead to poor practices in the industry. Read this book and learn, the story is there, clearly. When you know security - then take the test, don't learn how to take the test.

A fair book, not great

If you are looking for a discussion of Win98 or Win95 or any modern operating system you won't find it in this book. Most concepts are presented clearly. However the authors prefer to use Pascal which is a real detriment to understanding. This was probably a good book when it was written but it is now seriously outdated.

incomplete

this book is very sneaky. they say that you can play the game once but that is a lie. unless you read the entire book before playing the game there is a very slim chance you will get everything. you will be flipping pages and raging in anger when you find out that you missed out on something in chapter 1 when you only found out about it in chapter 3. this book is not a walkthrough. there are many errors in the bestiary. the hardest parts of the game will be a mystery to you. the blue bullet abilities are listed but they dont tell you how to get them. for the best items in the game, there are no locations. i am on my second game(new game plus) and i have only gotten some of the best items through the places which are not explained like the secret dungeon in the chocobo ranch or as a prize in the via infinito in bevelle. also.......i got an episode complete in every place but yet i have no mascot dressphere. they dont tell you that macalania cant be your last episode complete which was( unfortunately) mine. you need to automatically return to the airship after the episode complete and after you get the second episode complete at macalania outside the travel agency with o'aka you dont go back to the ship. buying this book will get you towards the end of the game, i dont deny that, but it lacks obscene amounts of detail. when you need the guide the most it doesnt have the information. if you want to beat the game in one shot good luck to you because with this guide it doubt it will happen unless tragedy struck your friend first and they can warn you. a word of advice....have lots of space on your memory card because you will be needing many files to pick up the slack on the strategy guide's lack of info.
