Best series.

I have owned the predecessor (Second edition not Second Edition C source code) for 4 years now, and I consider it to be the best book on the topic on computer graphics. It was very hard to understand at first, but has always been a valuable resource. In response to anyone who has complained that it covers too many topics, I ask that they (re) read the introduction. It is part of the Systems Programmer Series, which was started to document major discoveries/theories with computers, many of it's chapters where written in the 80's and are still relevant today.

An "Awsome" book.

This is one of my all time favorite books, if you want to learn how to write quality code, get this book!

--- Ok ok no one is finding my totaly un-detailed review helpful so I added a little <below>--

The main focus of the book is Code Readability, abstraction and single purpose routines. By the time you get thourgh this book you will be thinking of your previous programs as "Coding Horrors."

Another thing I found useful was his "Further Reading" section. Unlike some books, Steve really gives you a good list of books to read and explains why he is recommending it. Also at this end of the book he lists a series of books that is required reading for his company. These books are listed in a series of more intermediate books to more advanced books. So if your looking for an ordered list of books to buy, that section is very useful.

--- There I added a few more lines =) ----

Title: Graphic Java 2, Volume 2: Swing (3rd Edition)
Publisher: Prentice Hall PTR
Authors: David Geary
Rating: 3/5
Customer opinion - 3 stars out of 5
alright book

it has some great examples. half the book is great, the other half is just way to much. if david cut out the 'other' half, it would be a fabulous book. It is, however, the best swing book on the market right now. ( after reviewing 5 seperate swing books )
i am looking for something better to come out though.
A good combination of his book and kathy's book, The JFC Swing Tutorial, would be an excellent start. OR if david would have kept a similar format like he did in Graphic Java v. 1, AWT.

Best cocoa book for newbies

This is a note I sent to the author:
I've spent the last year hopping bewtween intro C and cocoa books. When yours came out I almost didn't buy it, fearing yet another bout ofconfusion. Thankfully, I made the purchase. I'm halfway through and confident I will not only finish but actually walk away with skills. Thanksfor remembering the beginner as well as your clear examples that provie detailed analysis each step of the way. If only all programming tombs were so well written.
