CISCO IOS in a nutshell

The one thing that I really expected in a volume that seems to bill itself as at least covering most of the salient points of the subject but DIDN'T find in this one was any of the commands related to vtp, vlans or trunks. I didn't think those commands would be considered as esoteric for the purposes of this book. Otherwise, it's another excellent title from O'Reilly, and I *do* own many.. I guess if you need everything short of the kitchen sink, the Cisco volume would better meet your needs.

The RFCs are clearer

Not so clearly written (or typeset for that matter). It's also somewhat out-of-date ('96).
I refer to it periodically, but find myself reading the RFC documents instead.
Stallings misdescribes the ipNetToMedia table(p. 130, 137). He doesn't mention that it's equivalent to the ARP cache.

very best

The coverage of this book is excellent! You can hardly find a book that offers such a rich coverage of knowledge about how to code everything in windows envoriment, windows services, active directory, Registry. As experienced programmers, I and my coworker got a lot out of this book. It is my bible for us to learn new things that we didn't know, such as windows services and active directory. I really admire the authors's wide spectrum of knowledge of MS products, and sincertely appreciate it for their willing to share with us. The book is worth every penny its price.

Pretty Darn Readable

I purchased the text in order to gain some insight into a subject I knew very little about. The book is extremely well organized and the topics are fully explained. There's a mix of history included with the technical explanations that makes this book very enjoyable reading. If your goal is to develop a clear understanding of the foundations of cryptography, look no further.
