Really great for beginners!

This book is really great for beginners. I am pretty new to programming, first time at trying to program games.. and even though I am only half-way through with the book, I feel like I have learnt so much already. The author clearly explains all the gaming concepts; palettes, blitting and things like that. He also gave a pretty good overview of DirectX and its intereaction with the windows OS.

Title: Design for Communication : Conceptual Graphic Design Basics

This work contributes to graphic design education

I am particularly impressed with the strength of the sections and introductory texts for each section. It is very cleverly planned and well written. More importantly, the strength of the book for me lies on the fact that the assignments do not illustrate but on the contrary, strengthens your observations, aims/objectives, methodology, structure and propositions for the design education.
The book is also in excellent record of what goes on in design colleges in terms of methods of working (to record students statements and instructors evaluations is, on its own right, a great contribution to knowledge within the design education). The interaction between students statements and instructors evaluations are very important for me. The two different texts create a dialogue within the book.
The book brings theory and practice together for the students and educators which is very rare in design publication and education and even more so at the BA/ undergraduate level..
Thank you for your great work!

Excellent tutorial & reference

For a beginner, Java 2 - The Complete Reference will be a perfect tutorial. I especially liked the first part of this book, which has been written in quite an exceptional manner.
Unlike a few other books, this book does not make nagging references to C/C++ and so, even somebody without prior knowledge of C/C++ will find it easy to read.
The sections on AWT and applets are also presented in a superb way.

A Must Have Reference!!!!

Being new to Excel I was constantly stumped on writing formulas for the various applications I was putting together. I can't tell you how many times I was contacting Microsoft Support for assistance. As helpful as they were, I am no longer in need of them since I got this book. Forget the various "how to use" books if it's help with formula writting that you need. I been through several and none come close to this one. Cover to cover (700+ pages)of well explained examples of every type of formula. Most useful software book I've ever had.
