The best Perl "how to" book out there.

For anyone who knows Perl, but wants to know how to do something particular, or, better yet, how to do it well, this is the book to have. And with the code examples available on-line, you don't even have to retype. As stated in the book's preface, it isn't for beginners. The book is very well organized if you know Perl. With Tom as close to the Perl core as one can get, you would do well to trust this excellent reference above others.

Compared to the last edition THIS ONE ROCKS!

The first thing I noticed is that it is much larger and has this bright yellow cover. I also really like the tabs on the edge of the pages. They make it so much easier to find what I am looking for. I spent a lot of time trying to find examples with the last edition, but this edition has an example index íV really cool. I am very excited to have this book and I am hiding it so that no one will steal it, like they did the last one.
I have to say that this book is the secret to my power. I have found so many examples that showed me how to accomplish all those crazy things that my customers ask me to do.

Brief but intense

They say it's good to leave your audience wanting more, but I'm not sure how correct that is with tech books. In this case I am definitely wanting more. About a third of the book is on basic operating system introductory material. The rest of the book starts to get in-depth on file system analysis, hacker trapping, and some basic data analysis. But then it ends. And I wanted more.

Definitely a good start at file system analysis, specifically on Unix machines. But you will definitely be left wanting more of the same.
