not impressed

personally i am not impressed by this book. i have been doing java for a year and because i am from a programming background i was able to appreciate the chapters on data types statements and so on. But I was all the time thinking if I was a beginner then this material would not be easy to take in. I became stuck on the chapter on objects as there is a little mention of things such as Document Object Models which is an important part of javascript. After looking up this stuff on the web I am more comfortable with it. Overall my feeling is that this book does contain a lot of stuff but has not been put together in a good ordered fashion. Thums down I am afraid

Title: A+ Training Guide, Fifth Edition

Very amateurish writing style and careless presentation...

I approached this certification with some self-taught expertise, but I am essentially a novice. The guide assumes this fact and leads you through a systematic, thoughtful, easy to follow road that should lead to certification. I found the author to be conversational without being chatty, the material to be effectively laid out and presented. The tables and charts were very useful. The pictures were readable, not grainy or overly dark. The final review is essentially an "exam cram", which is useful for that last minute review before the exam. I have taken and passed the A+ exam using this guide and Prep Logic exams. I bought the full Prep Logic because I felt like the samples included with this book were such good practice. Probably overkill, as you can most likely pass the test with just the text and the sample questions. I am now working on Network+ and am using Bird and harwood's Network+ guide by QUE, which I also highly reccomend. Hope this helps some and best of luck on your journey.

An Industry Standard

All the equipment and and all the software in the world will not make you a great photographer, but no one is capable of greatness without the craft, experience, and attentiveness to detail this book offers. I found Mr. Ames' instruction to be crucial for better understanding the means of creating superior images, and personally inspirational for the desire to do so.
Women provide the object, but the end result is meant to be an enhanced understanding of your art and process, regardless of what is being shot. I completely disagree with the reviewer who claimed that 'real photograpers' would not completely remake an image: nonsense! That assertion is easily disproved by studying any reknowned artist in any medium -- it's the final result that matters. My feeling, after having read 'The Art of Photographing Women' is one of gratitude to Mr. Ames for sharing his extensive knowledge, and the only thing that prevents me from awarding him 5 stars is the hope that he'll be provoked into writing a sequel!
