By far, the BEST book on MySQL!

Prior to reading this book, my knowledge of MySQL was limited at best. I had built some web sites but wanted to offer database hosting as an option to my customers. My limited knowledge of database administration was holding me back though. Since I had access to MySQL as well as PHP, I figured this would be a good book to get me started. Huge understatement! Before even finishing the book, I was able to offer this service to my existing customers. Now, granted, these databases were not massive and multi-featured, however, they suited my customers needs perfectly. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about MySQL and it's related scripting languages. It is well written, and the author is able to make a dry subject interesting and easy to learn. It is also very easy to find the information you are looking for when using the book as a reference.

Strong Coverage of Install and Getting Started

SUSE is to Linux in Europe what Red Hat was in the United States. That is, it's pretty much the standard distribution. In the United States Red Hat now moving to Fedora and away from selling a box product. At the same time Novell and SUSE have teamed up which should give SUSE more mind share than it had before.

At any rate, SUSE (Suz-A) was one of the very first distributions that produced a packaged product (and is still around). It comes with the YaST (Yet another Setup Tool) installation and administration program. This book is supplied with SUSE 9.1 (including YaST) on a DVD.

Chapter 1 of the book starts off with selecting your language (would you believe it offers Magyar) and then goes through the various installation screens, explaining what the various options mean as you go along.

This book covers just the operating system and a few programs that are very closely tied to the OS such as web, ftp, DNS and mail servers. The book does not cover such things as MySQL, just the OS. I don't consider this a problem because the amount of coverage you could give to MySQL in a chapter would be only enough to get you in trouble. And besides you might want to use Postgre instead.

Excellent book.

Not such a great book, unless you know what you're doing

Gotta agree with the other reviews. The references to PlayOnline.com make this book pretty worthless. Its not extra information at all, its important stuff. Every secret in the game, locations of items, side games, boss stratagies, shop locations, and other useful tips are all online. The text in the book is basically just filler and pictures, all the real stuff is online. I suggest you just register the site and print out the pages instead of buying the book. It's got the same layout as the book, plus all the important information. Overly dissappointing. I don't like going online for game info anyway, I hate printing all this stuff out. That's why I bought the book in the first place. I wish another company made a strategy guide for this game worth paying for..
