Essentially Useless

I personally know Douglas Mauro and can attest to his expertise on SNMP. Having worked with Doug on an HP OpenView project, I was impressed by his knowledge of SNMP and his skills on OpenViews collections, filters and maps.
SNMP is known by many and understood by few. Doug and Kevin have done an exceptional job of presenting this topic with vivid and useful examples. I have referred to this book many times in designing network management systems for clients.
I highly recommend this book to people leaning about networking (aka CCNA) to full fledge network engineers

Not what I was expecting

If you're looking for a comprehensive guide on setting up a Postfix mail server, then this isn't the book for you. For those that are already familiar with setting up MTAs, the information provided in "The Definitive Guide" is probably enough, but this book only covers a subset of the Postfix configuration parameters and does not provide the step-by-step instructions that many people may be expecting.

Excelent book, but not up to date anymore

As almost all O'Reilly books, this is a great technical book. Great info, great index, and great organization. The author is a CSS guru. Unfortunatelly the contents aren't up to date with the current browser technology. The 2000 edition doesn't even know about the newst Mozilla versions (a.k.a. Netscape 6). Wait for a newer edition, or buy another one.
