Title: The Ultimate VB .NET and ASP.NET Code Book
Publisher: Apress
Authors: Karl Moore
Rating: 2/5
Customer opinion - 2 stars out of 5
Not Primarily a VB.NET book

From the title and initial reviews, I was hoping for a book that explained VB.NET methods simply, without a lot of the MS techno-speak. This book turned out to be geared more for ASP developers, particularly using SQL Server databases. I am using Oracle with VB.NET and have found little to justify spending money on this book. Very disappointing. To compound the injury, the book is very loosely organized.

Title: eBay Hacks: 100 Industrial-Strength Tips and Tools

Interesting tip guide and essential eBay companion

I bought this book to pick up some of the finer points of selling on eBay, but what impressed me the most was what I didn't expect. Sure, this book has tons of selling strategy, but it's intermixed with keen insights into the physchology of buyers and sellers alike. I never expected that from a book like this.
Another thing I never anticipated was the rich coverage of auction photographs, including tips like jpeg compression and depth of field for closeup photography. And if you are into programming (as I am), your eyes will be opened to the ebay api and the prospect of replacing hours of tedious work with a few lines of code.
Did you know you could spellcheck your auctions or set it up so that you'll be notified whenever someone with zero or negative feedback bids on one of your auctions? It's in there, and more.
Overall, Ebay Hacks is well written and a great ebay book with tons of tricks you never knew existed. Nothing else touches it. Highly recommended!

Title: CWNA Certified Wireless Network Administrator Official Study Guide (Exam PW0-100), Third Edition (Planet3 Wireless)
Publisher: McGraw-Hill Osborne Media
Authors: Planet3 Wireless
Rating: 5/5

Vital

Coming from the network software development area, I decided to change my technical direction 7 month ago; started reading some books about wireless LANs, attended the CWNA class provided by Planet3 Wireless a month later, studied hard using mainly the CWNA Study Guide and then passed the certification test 2 month later.
This guide provides a very pragmatic, "hands-on" presentation about what you need to know if you want to deal professionally with wireless LANs. The vendor-neutral character of it expresses the spirit of the wireless LAN technology itself. The book, in combination with the very good CWNA class, is vital to pass the CWNA exam. To have it easier at the certification exam (I choked already at the first question big time ;) , but passed anyway), I recommend to also go through books like "802.11 Wireless Networking" from Mathew Gast, to get wireless LAN aspects shown from different angles.

Really Learning Pearl

This was the first book I've 'eaten' about Pearl, and I can say that was very nutritive to my mind fundamentally on those snacks on DBM access or CGI programming flavors. In few words it's for sure a book to be recommended, specially ir you've already a eaten some C or C++. ( I shouldn't write books reviews before have taken my lunch...)
