Very Good Book. But...

Very good book. Covers everything from basics to advanced topics. But there are minor errors in some of the source codes and discrepancy between the text and source code. For example, in the source code a variable is defined as "val" and the text is referencing a variable name "myVal". I find this confusing.

A practical "how to" manual for applying reflection

Java Reflection In Action by the collaborative team of Ira and Nate Forman is a practical "how to" manual for applying reflection to computer programming. Reflection is the ability of a running program to look at itself and its environment, and change what it does according to what it sees. It is an inbuilt feature of the Java language and allows one to sidestep a common source of maintenance woes. Java Reflection In Action walks the programmer through a complete understanding of reflection and some of the most useful reflective solutions to replace "hard-coded" ones. An excellent self-teaching resource for intermediate to advanced students and practitioners of Java programming, Java Reflection In Action is packed from cover to cover with examples, flowcharts, sample code, and more, all effectively designed to facilitate instruction.

Title: Visual Basic 6 How to Program
Publisher: Prentice Hall
Authors: Harvey M. Deitel, Paul J. Deitel, Tem Nieto, T.R. Nieto

Great Book!

This is the worst programming book I've ever seen. Examples: the authors actually explain the difference between hardware and software, how to open a file folder in Windows, how to save a file, and other elementary processes that anyone who has used a windows computer for longer than 20 minutes knows. However, when it comes to explaining the Visual Basic programming environment, they don't bother to explain how to access the Forms Layout window they are referring to, although it isn't obvious. (It's under the View menu.) At the end of Chp 2, after showing you ONLY how to add a label to a form, their exercise consists of building the GUI for a calculator! Furthermore, since they don't and WILL NOT provide answers, there is absolutely NO WAY for you to learn how to complete the exercise!
They waste time and space telling you what any idiot would already know, then fail to provide you with the information you bought the book for: how to program in Visual Basic. Buy something else - ANYTHING else!
