Title: Java for the Web with Servlets, JSP, and EJB: A Developer's Guide to J2EE Solutions
Publisher: Sams
Authors: Budi Kurniawan
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Strongly recommended to buy

1. It is easy to read and includes step by step explaination.
2. All in One for J2EE study, very details, especially in Web application(chapter 1 - 27)
3. The book also includes project examples for java web application(chapter 18-20: Developing e-commmerce application, XML-based E-Books, and Web-Based Document Management). The examples give me a deep undestanding on how to combine/choose Servlet, JSP, and/or JavaScript for developing a certain web application
4. The book will be really excellent if the author can also provide a project example for EJB Application (chapter 28-33) like the ones for web application (see no 3).

Title: Secrets and Lies : Digital Security in a Networked World
Publisher: Wiley
Authors: Bruce Schneier
Rating: 4/5
Customer opinion - 4 stars out of 5
Good---but long

Schneier is a security god, but sometimes he displays a little *too* much knowledge. If you're an amateur security buff, buy this book, learn a lot by enjoying the first three quarters of it, and then put it aside. It drags toward the end, and unless security is your business, you'll go crazy trying to get through the whole thing.

Great Advice

This book is not easy reading; it is like taking a crash course in management accounting, economics and marketing. The author also freely scatters acronyms throughout the text (they are very well explained on first use though). The book is well worth the effort, and has excellent chapter summaries to convey key points.

My ebay (and other auction site) selling ambitions are limited; I am looking to generate a secondary income (books target audience is the full time business, not casual seller). This book has made me rethink some previous auctions, in particular exclusive use of $1NR.

The assessment of listing upgrades has made me rethink what I will do in future auctions. The promotions strategy is great, the material on keyword searching is excellent.

The chapter on branding and the use of the me page is excellent: I incorporated some of the suggestions into linking my me page to web pages, despite a very impersonal web address, http://mysite.verizon.net/vze48sdz/ - the flow of traffic was surprising. Combined with the industrial strength ebay hacks book advice on affiliate selling this prooving effective!

The real life scenarios are superb; they really do help clarify the strategies outlined in the book.

Excellent book that has easily repayed it's cost.
