excessively complex

This is a book to get you up and running on Windows programming in C++, not a book to learn C++ by. The book lacks attention to good programming style. I quote page 80 -
"the variable name count1 has been duplicated here only toillustrate what happens, although this code is legal, it isn'ta good approach to programming in general"
This quote is in reference to the code presented on pg 79, introducing variable scope.
Just as inportant as knowing how to code is knowing how to code so others can understand what you are doing. The quote abovewas not the first instance, where tha author tell the readerthat the code example he has presented is wrong in terms of style.
Other than this the book is well written and the material ispresented well, however this is not a book to pick up if youwant to learn be a programmer.

Good, but lacking

I received this book in the mail last week...First impressions: very comprehensive and accessible. A huge amount of content here. A success for New Riders.

Words of caution

If you're a beginner in programming then this book is perfect for you! Else if you're a seasoned programmer looking to migrate to VB, look elsewhere.
I often found myself skipping through the text because the content is paced and written for people new to programming. However, I wish that I had this book earlier in my career when I started to learn programming, so it's excellent for beginners.
Hope this helps anyone who's buying this book.

Best introduction to CSS I've seen

Well organized, clearly written, comprehensive, approachable. This is a real tutorial, with step-by-step exercises that are excellent learning aides and are fun to boot. The end of each chapter includes "assignments" that offer additional opportunities to practice what you've learned. (The solutions are provided in an appendix.) This book gave me the foundation to begin coding "table-less" layouts and have a pretty good time doing it. Very good stuff.
