Required Reading

This book is so fundamental and common sense you might take it for granted. Don't make that mistake, buy a copy.

This book covers a wide range of material, from variable declaration to variable naming to software design and probably everything else concerning software construction. This book talks a lot about style, but it is backed up with hard facts not just personal preference.

The examples are written in several languages (such as C++, Java, and VB). It includes a very meaty chapter on design, as well as chapters on classes, high quality routines, and refactoring. Even though this is book is not mainly about design, it is the best design book I have read!

Each chapter has an Additional Resources section so you know where to go for more. The resources are also online on the authors website which is extremely handy.

This book teaches you how you can write good and self-describing code. I wished every program I've had to read had been written by programmers who read this book and applied that knowledge. If you're a manager buy copies for all your programmers. It will be the best investment you ever made in your programmers and projects.

It is what says: a primer

I think anyone who wants to get into SAS programming should own this book! I've been programming for about 2 years now and still refer back to this book on occasion. The amount of knowledge packed into this little book (thus the title "The Little SAS Book") is invaluable, especially for a beginner. This was the book that allowed me to pin down some of the mvp's (Most valuable procs) of the language.

The best reference out there!

I work in a corporate environment and have found this book to be invaluable -- even in the short two week's I've owned it. Hardly a day goes by when I don't need to find a little VBA technique to help me create useful Excel apps for our team, and this book thus far has not let me down. It's accessible, targeted and concise. Highly recommended.

Worth it's weight

Computer books must sell on weight because so many are filled with unnecessary bumph to add padding. NOT the case with this book, every page is filled with constructive detailed information put into plain English. The knowledge and experience of the authors shines through and I have used much of the wisdom parted with in this book in numerous situations at work - it has a permanent place on my desk. This book also helped me pass the Microsoft SQL Server exams.
