Title: The Inmates Are Running the Asylum : Why High Tech Products Drive Us Crazy and How to Restore the Sanity (2nd Edition)
Publisher: Sams
Authors: Alan Cooper
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Excellent book that all designers and developers should read

I'm a professional UI designer, and Cooper's book seemed to come right out of my very own experiences. He has successfully carried out his own recipe for good UI design (providing power and pleasure) in his writing. This book is funny, yet real and practical. Humor in storytelling often delivers the most truth with the least effort in the most memorable form.
He goes out on some long limbs, and that is precisely what impresses me the most about his writing. He has the courage to present his often contrarian, polemic ideas as what they are: Opinions, or theories, based on experience. Theories are judged by their usefulness, and his are useful.
No, all programmers are not guilty. Yes, MBAs have also screwed up products. At least Cooper targets a real, known issue and has drawn attention to it without biting off too much. His anecdotes are memorable fables of the software design industry, which I already find myself dropping in conversations.

Title: The Data Warehouse Toolkit: Practical Techniques for Building Dimensional Data Warehouses

When The Rubber Must Meet The Road!

There are too many books on data warehousing. This book is the (only) one you need when it's time to "roll up your sleeves" and deliver a design that will really work... in the real world. Most major business activities and all of the types of designs (snapshot, delivery status, etc.) are covered in detail. The CD-ROM includes all the printed samples, and more, with sample data and an application which helps newcomers see how the databases are queried - and how additional facts may be easily derived from the stored facts. Ralph knows his stuff - and knows how to communicate with his readers. A MUST HAVE!

It is a great book for a any college level student, even with very little background in Biology. They gaveyou all the background you need to understand why youwant to do such and such analysis.
No painful math either! and some of the jokes are actually... fun.
It is soooo different from other Bioinfo books I came across.
A good buy, really.

Perfect book to get you started

I've got this book after taking a very bad course at the university where we had a teacher that never explains a thing.. I've got some practices from homeworks i did but never got the theory. This book was very helpful to crystalize all the abstract ideas i had in my mind... it's a very good introduction to java. As you know Java is so big and can never be coverd in 1 or 2 or even 3 books.. however this is a good book to keep cause it talks about a little bit of everything and the way they talk about Object Oriented Programming is very easy to understand... If you're new to Java or C++ like language and you want to get a full introduction.. then don't hesitate bying it!
