Great book to introduce readers to Data Warehousing

It can be difficult garnering support to implement a DW or DM project across an organization. This is a great book to distribute in the company before brainstorming on the project. Ralph Kimball has excellent suggestions for steps in the implementation process. It is not too technical and this is very helpful for colleagues in other departments that will be politically supporting the project.

Good book but lacking solutions to exercises

I downloaded the TIJ book and started reading the first two chapters. Initially, I thought this was an excellent book. Bruce Eckel says that the solutions to the exercises are available online for a small fee. I was planning to purchase the solutions but when I went to his site, he says that he has the solutions for chapters 2 and 3 only and that he does not know when he can complete the solutions for the remaining chapters. Right there and then, I stopped reading the book. He misled the readers of his book. I was supposed to give him 5 stars for his good writing style but decided to give his book a net rating of 2 for lacking solutions to exercises.

Best PHP Book

I've been programming with dozens of languages since 1974, but I was new to PHP. This book was exactly what I was looking for! I read the book cover-to-cover. Jason has the unique ability to introduce the subject completely without boring you to tears. He knows when to provide examples, and when to leave the reader to figure out the rest. This is an excellent book for programmers that have seen the patterns before and have experience with other languages. You will immediately "get" how to do things with PHP... and once you do, you may never go back to your "old" programming language.

The best ASP book for an experienced VB programmer

I recently made a successful transition from client server to web applications. I credit part of the success to this book. As a VB programmer, I wasn't interested in a long book on all aspects of the VBScript language and COM objects. What I needed was a book that explained the HTTP protocol and ASP object models. This book filled that function exactly.
This is not a good book for programming novices, and will be no more helpful than a reference manual would be to them. However, experienced VB programmers will see it as fulfilling both instructional and reference roles. It is a book you will read on repeated occasions and always keep close at hand.
