This book has no equal in Win32 Api

This book is BAD. I could not compile the sample codes (maybe they are obsolete). Among the 4 books I have on Windows API, this is the only one I don't like.

A must have !

This book is a must have if you are in Perl, the reason i did not give it the fifth star is that there were not enough code samples for a real beginner like i was when i bought it. I've used Perl for a year now and this book is the only one i still read. This is really a great book !

A very long and detailed read

If you crave information, you've got the right book.

There is an absolute mountain of information in this book. At times you will feel like you're trapped in the last excruciating hour of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, when it drags on and on.

Some of the chapters are too long. The author would have benefited by breaking the chapters into smaller pieces or providing some sort of outline at the beginning. It is easy to get lost in a morass of details three quarters the way through the chapter, and having to flip back to find out what the information has any relation to.

I used this book as the basis for passing the CCDA, and supplanted (or in some cases summarized) the information using the second edition book and Todd Lammle's CCDA book. You probably only need one tenth of all the information to pass, but the difficult part is knowing which tenth that is.

The scenarios in Chapter 11 do a good job of giving you a sneak peek at the scenarios on the actual exam. You can expect several of them.

I gave the book four stars simply because of the sheer volume of information. The writing style is average to good. Considering Cisco's horriffic record with editing their own titles, this book is exceptionally error free.

An invaluable book about an indispensable framework!

Remember your first J2EE Hello World app? Just to make that client work, you had to write the remote and home interfaces, and a deployment descriptor. If you wrote the Web version, add web.xml to your list. Let's not forget those configuration files for your app/web servers. Now, think of a framework that fabricate all the nuts and bolts for you -- generating deployment descriptors, EJB homes, remotes, app server files, struts-config.xml and more. No, you are not day dreaming, XDoclet can do all and more!
Quoting several opportunities that exist for automated code generation, authors introduce XDoclet framework as an indispensable tool that actually works! Focusing on every day J2EE development, chapters in "Enterprise Java" section talk about the application of XDoclet in EJB layer and Web application layer. Following are chapters in the "Other XDoclet applications" category that introduce advance applications such as code generation for persistence frameworks, JMX, SOAP/WebServices and mock objects. The concluding section on "Extending XDoclet" deals with custom code generation and XDoclet patterns.
Abundant practical help and many working examples are offered throughout the book including the process of tool adoption for J2EE efforts that are already underway. The working J2EE application that is included in the book can be used as a reference implementation.
In essence, this book does more than just teaching - it helps you realize the benefits of XDoclet in days and start saving valuable time and money.
