Good, but please! don't expect nirvana

A fast, energetic read vital for anyone involved in marketing products or running a business. Highly Recommended. A good companion to Jack Trout's New Positioning.

Didn't appeal to me - I wish I hadn't bought it!

I can't understand why this book has been so highly rated. I bought it on the basis of the other reviews. I have found it lacking in all the areas I have needed to look up. I have found one or two useful things as well; but it seems to lack some basic (and I don't mean beginner) coverage. For example INSERTs are covered; yet there isn't any coverage about how to return an id from the INSERT. I believe the book could be improved just by addressing some of the questions being asked on SQL/VB sites. I also did not like the layout of the book. I have used SQL since the early days (1983).

Title: How to Do Everything with Photoshop CS
Publisher: McGraw-Hill Osborne Media
Authors: Colin Smith, Colin Smith
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Colorful, Effective Book

How to do Everything with Photoshop doesn't teach you "everything" but does show some of the key components and techniques in Photoshop that you would most commonly use. First of all, the book is in full color, which makes reading much more interesting. I love how every tutorial has a picture guidance to help you see and visualize the author's techniques. Most of the tutorials are straight to the point, easy to understand and a great stepping stone to get you up and running in Photoshop. I wish the book would show you more photo effect techniques but otherwise, the book is very colorful, vibrant, easy to read, covers the important aspects of Photoshop and pretty cheap at under $20. I would say this is a great beginners book.

Title: Core JavaServer Faces (Sun Microsystems Press Java Series)
Publisher: Prentice Hall PTR
Authors: David Geary, Cay Horstmann
Rating: 1/5

Certainly not as good as authors other books

I purchased this book, in part due to the reputation of
the Sun "Core" book series; and in part due to the
reputation and work of the authors previous titles.

The book is not at all intuitive, and seems to jump right
into deploying JSF. If you are a HIGHLY experienced
J2EE programer, Apache/Tomcat application administrator,
then maybe this book is for you. If not, then I would
recommend looking elsewhere.

Not only is the book lacking in context, but what is worse,
is that the JSF 1.1 specification documents (available on-line
for free from http java dot sun dot com / j2ee / javaserverfaces)
are better written, and more complete.

Again, I would recommend another title (none of which
I have read), or the JSF specification itself. If you
are like me, and hate reading 800 + pages on-line,
then I would recommend downloading and printing out the
JSF documentation.
