Can't go wrong with this book

I used this book ONLY and passed the CCNA test on the first try...that is what counts for me. I am a true 'newbie' and had NO experience with Cisco or routing. The book was well layed out, easy to read, and obviously gave me the right knowledge to pass the test the first time. I do ,however, think a bit more time should have been given to ISDN and Frame Relay...but that is really my only gripe. The network simulator was invaluable, I don't think I would have passed without it. Not having access to a router, and no experience, the simulator really made the concepts in the book sink in for me. Plus, knowing the comands is a must, and using the simulator made that 100 times easier than just sitting there looking at them in a book.

Title: Joe Celko's SQL for Smarties: Advanced SQL Programming
Publisher: Morgan Kaufmann
Authors: Joe Celko
Rating: 5/5

Very Good book

I bought this book because Henderson "TSQL for gurus" mentioned it, actually I bought all Celkos books, they are great and even if you think you can outsmart the book and the writer you wont get far. It takes time to be good in SQL since it is totaly different from standard procedural language. This books shows you lots of things you may ask why the heck do I need this? abd many would say well the SQL I used has this feature and I dont need that Ansi stuff, but the point is the book makes you think SQL and that is what its goal was not compare or choose a particular SQL implementation, I myself am attached to T-SQL so i tried to do things MS way.
I recomend it and if you really want to pushed the way you think SQL forward buy some miles buy it..
Sure anybody can write a query .....but how many ways can you do it?

One of the three Great Excelent Books!

Great, great, great! A wonderfull book. But some of the comments I've read above miss the point of the book because... well, perhaps they haven't read OTHER books that might help. For example, criticism of GEB without reading "The Selfish Gene" (by Dawkins) should not be taken in account. For, if "functionalim" doesn't specifie necessary and sufficient conditions for the act reference, melt it with Darwinism, and you'll have it. Beside that, GEB has alloud me to really understand Damásio's books, "Descartes's Error" and "The felling of what happens", his latest. Read them and you'll see that Damasio's construct of the mind is a very godelian one - or better, a Hofstadterian one. Reason, Emotion and Imagination, all these are subsistems that may communicate in godelian ways (what was that Pascal was trying to say with 'the heart has reasons that reason itsel does not know of'?).
Read GEB - it's a Great, Excelent Book
