Title: Code Complete
Publisher: Microsoft Press
Authors: Steve McConnell
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
My favorite programming book.

This is the only book I have read that thoroughly discusses programming at the _statement_ level. Steve spends the obligatory time on methodology and testing, but the real value of this book is its discussion of cohesion, coupling, and code tuning. Examples are in C, Pascal, Ada, Basic, etc., but the lessons are language independant. I rarely give 5 stars, but this is my very favorite. If you are a programmer, you will find something (probably a lot) that will improve your code.

Obsolete Technologies

Wanting to learn servlet programming, I bought this book, but had to return it for a refund. This book is based on the older technologies. Why are they still selling this book? To be honest I don't know how many stars I should give this book, so I just put 3.

Title: The GRE Test for Dummies, Fifth Edition
Publisher: For Dummies
Authors: Suzee Vlk
Rating: 2/5

Fun, but not helpful in real test!

I read it with great joy and fun, but the strategies the author provides cannot be that applicable to the real test because the major strategies in this book are pretty old. The code of modern CBT GRE is not that simply broken. Of course, it is true that first five (I think the first ten at least) questions are extremely important. But trust me! Do not rely only on the first five questions because ETS conders the most how many questions the test takers answer correctly. You can enjoy this book. But if you prepare GRE only with this book, I am sure that you will be greatly abashed. Math is good, but GRE math is getting complicated. For math, it would be better to review the Math section ETS freely provides through its website.
