Not good at all

This is an absolutely horrible book. It is in NO WAY an "Introduction". I found that the text is so dense that I can only read for 10 minutes at a time. I have learned nothing from my readings except that I can't stand the way Date writes.
I bought the book because it is required reading for my Database Specifications class. I am returning it and will purchase an alternate book.

Excellent book on Samba

I've read a number of books on Samba starting with one written in 1998 by John Blair. Samba books are commonly written as references, borrowing heavily from other books and man pages. They are also often written from a developer's point of view. "Samba-3 by Example" is different: it is written from a system administrator's point of view. You the reader become the sysadmin of a growing company, and learn how to grow your Samba solution with the company. Each chapter has an "Implementation" section with good hands-on examples. Also, this book gets in to more advanced topics such as integrating Kerberos security into Samba, the black art of migrating data from Windows servers to Linux/UNIX servers running Samba, and the new "passdb backend" smb.conf parameter. Finally, it addresses Samba-3 which is now standard with most Linux distributions as pre-built RPMs. I would definitely recommend this book if you are going to buy a book on Samba.

Dont waste your money - buy the book

If you are thinking about buying this or any other e-book from Adobe for that matter - STOP!, and dont waste your money. When I paid for this book little did I know that the book can only be read on the computer I downloaded the file to. Great, so I now learn AFTER I have paid for the book that I can only read it on my home computer when I actually intended to use it on my work system or on my laptop. This has to be one of the most ridiculous security measures I ave ever heard of. You cannot even backup copies to a disk - because these copies will not work either. This is to coin a phrase very sneaky on the behalf of the publishers - who dont tell prospective customers in advance.
If I had known that I would be wasting my money on such rubbish, I would have bought the REAL book, (which by the way is the same price as the ebook), and which I could then use whenever and wherever I chose to use it.I am sure there must be many others who have had exactly the same problem as I have - and I sympathize with you.All I can say is I will never be purchasing another e-book from Adobe or anyone else for that matter, and I wouldnt be surprised to hear that comment from 90% of all e-book customers.

Classic textbook on databases for interested professionals.

What the Torah is to Judism, what the New Testament is to Christianity, so is "Intro" to relational database theory and practice. One can not reasonably consider themselves a competent practitioner (or even student) of the topic without thorough mastery of "Intro".
