A great intro to Data Structures and Algorithms

I bought this book a couple of months ago for use in my DS&A class, and it was a superb resource. This book does just what it says it does, no math or proofs, but clear explanations. The applets provide a great way to actually see how the algorithms work. Overall, this is one of the best DS&A books.

nothing new or informative

I was very disappointed with this book and ended up returning it. This book contains nothing but the most basic information and many very average photographs. The booklet that came with your camera and the help files you get with your software will tell you as much, if not more, than this book on most topics related to digital photography. The discussions of lighting are unbelievable in their brevity. Much more detailed information and variety of quality examples is not only available in other books, but available for free on the internet. In general, most of the topics are covered in less than a couple hundred words and some illustrations are so tiny as to be pointless. Some others are simply mediocre nude photos taken at his home for web sites on the internet.

If this is your first photography book, it might be ok (again, the amount of info is startlingly sparse and available elsewhere). Otherwise, you should certainly skip it.

Reference and Tutorial In One!

I found out I really like database programming. This book helped me learn it.
The first section is a tutorial dedicated to those who know nothing about database programming. I found Paul's style to be relaxing and easy to understand. The next parts are explanations on how to make MySQL work with CGI and PHP. I am using CGI for my website, and I thought the CGI section was good, if almost "too" informative. (If you want a good MySQL/CGI quick reference book, check out CGI 101.)
All in all, a good book for those who are starting from scratch on MySQL, or even those who are transferring from another database program.
