Title: Modeling Derivatives in C++ (Wiley Finance)

Authors: Justin London
Rating: 5/5

A big hit in the Financial Engineering Literature

This book covers in depth both the theoretical and (most important) the practical side of equity and interest rate derivatives modeling. This is the FIRST book which, not only illustrates theory, but also provides practical (detailed, immediatly usable) C++ implementation of the models reviewed. All the most important topics are covered:
Equity -> B&S, Binomial Trinomial Trees, Stochastic Volatility Models, Finite Difference Schemes.
Fixed Income-> Hull-White, Black-Derman-Toy, Black-Karasinki, CIR and LIBOR MARKET MODEL as well. Every model reviewed, is not only implemented but also explained in terms of calibration to real market data.
The author even provides code to price Bermudan Swaptions and other commonly traded Exotic Interest Rate Products.
Overall a great book which drastically improves the already excellent text by Clelow-Strickland (Implementing Derivatives Models) and will be extremely useful to anybody (IB quants, grad students, risk managers and traders) aiming to have a quick, solid and detailed treatment on derivatives modeling.

Title: Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac OS X : Visual QuickStart Guide (Visual Quickstart Guides)

Gets You Started Quickly

Aimed at the beginning and intermediate user of Microsoft Office for Macintosh, this book is part of the Visual Quickstart Guide. The philosophy of the series is to use a lot of photographs so that you can see what the screen should look like as you do various tasks during the learning process.

The organization of the book, after an introduction that you really should read or at least glance over, is modular just like the software. There's a part on Word, on Excel, on PowerPoint, and on Entourage. Each part is self standing and can be used independently of the other parts. You can read the part on the software you need without having to go do everything at once. Although to be sure you will sooner or later want to use the various applications together, and for this there is Part VI: Combining the Applications.

As a visually oriented book, there are hundreds of pictures/drawings to illustrate just about every point. It's a very fast way to get started.
