Scholarly Presentation - Keeps Reader Focused

I studied this work 30-days before taking the CISSP November 2001 examination. You don't pass the CISSP exam from just reading; broad experience is mandatory. The 'Prep Guide' helped me pull my experience into focus for the exam; the book does not give you the answers on the test, it helps you understand the concepts, thus, it helps the reader understand the exam questions which in turn allows the exam taker to go quickly into deep memory and find the answer that most resembles those on the exam. Of all the thousands of dollars of "security" books that I have purchased, read, and studied, the 'Prep Guide' is the only one that extensively covers the broad spectrum of topics emphasized in the exam.
Main plusses of the book:(1)It keeps you focused in your study, (2) The scholarly writing is a good preparation for the way the examination questions are stated, (3) It will continue to be a solid reference book in my security practioners library (the added HIPAA information may have been filler but I find it useful in the profession if not for the exam), and(4) Best price of any prepration security book for the focused information that it provides.
Oh, yes, and it helped me receive my CISSP certification in November. Buy the book and study the book, you will not go wrong.

Very comprehensive book with a broad look at KM

This book is great. I work for an e-learning company and I am glad that everything in this book is what I am doing with my clients as I work with them. There are several layers of building an e-learning strategy. Most companies don't think about this. This book starts with first build your strategy. Then find a vendor that will fit. You may have a blended solution to take care of all your needs. Then look at how you will have to reorganize your organizaiton, are you willing to cut the Instructor lead training budget to make E-Learning work? Are you ready to compliment your Instructor Lead Training with e-learning. It also tackels talking to Senior managers. This book had really helped me focus on the issue and prepare for them.

caveat emptor..........

There are very many bad opinions about this series. Most of them do deserve a hearing.
If u want something that shows u an implementation of algorithm.. helps you get started.. this is the book to look for. Be warned there are caveats. I used one of their routines and was left scratching my head for a week... because i failed to notice that it only accepted datas of length which are power of 2. The book said it somewhere.. but the code just failed with no warning. It is a good place to start, but a bad place to get stuck with. This book is a must if you deal with large data sets and find matlab very slow. You can quickly whip up something up in C pretty fast.
I would say that their fortran 90 implementation is much cleaner than C. And so it is up to you.. do whatever u want to but don't use the codes blindly..for you will get burnt badly..

The best value for the beginner

Every book on programming has a few errors and this one is noexception to that rule. But few books at this price are as complete as this one. All the basics, and quite a few of the advanced concepts are here. Use this for your MOUS. Add to it for Exam 70-097 etc.
