Skip steps in examples, difficult to follow

The examples in book are difficult to follow. Many intermediate steps were skipped. I am frustrated, trying to follow examples in the book and do not get the results shown on screenshots. I end up searching Google for answers, which I found all of them. If you plan to pay for this book, my recommendation is getting a copy of table of contents and then searching in Google for the contents. The book should mention (or at least refer to) the setup that makes Crystal Reports .NET work, e.g. where & how to set up IIS, virtual directory, etc. E.g., I can't get the screenshot shown in Figure 5-4 because I do not have the required virtual directory setup. Or, I can't get the screenshot in Figure 10-4 (still looking for answer as of writing).

Simply the best

This book takes the heavy task of teaching Perl in a light way - if you don't have any sense of humour, don't buy this book. Not full of examples or sample code, but that's not the point with this book (not that "learn Perl in 21 days" stuf). You'll see Perl through the eyes of who made it.

Can't keep up with lightspeed growth of web technologies

I bought this book a long time back when it was first published (first edition). If your target web browser is IE4 and NN4 then this book may deserve a 3 or 4 star rating. However, web technologies have grown at lightspeed pace and this book has been collecting dust on the shelf.
In order for this book to be effective it must cover the latest in DOM and CSS standards. I cannot recommend this book.-Lee
